Central America Banks
|
Central America is located between Mexico and South
America and includes Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua,
Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Belize. It has an
area of 523 000 km 2 . It is flanked by the
Caribbean Sea to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the
west. The altitude moderates the tropical climatic
effects characteristic of Central America. In this way,
average temperatures in the highlands are much lower
than those in the coastal zone. The rain occurs mainly
during the summer, between May and November. The driest
period is between January and March. The population of
the seven countries that make up Central America is 36
594 000 residents (2000). The main forms of relief
are: the Madre Ocidental mountain range, the Madre
Oriental mountain range and the Mexican plateau. |
