Member State of the United States of America. It borders on the south with the Gulf of Mexico and the state of Florida on the east with Georgia on the north with Tennessee and on the west with Mississippi. This state is crossed by the Alabama River, which flows into the Gulf of Mexico. It covers an area of 134 000 km 2 and its population is 4 447 000 residents (2000). The capital is the city of Montgomery.
The state of Alabama is made up of many mountains, lakes, caves, huge forests, endless farmland and beaches on its southern shores. Rural communities and small towns nestle between the gently rolling hills and are home to bed and breakfasts, museums and antique shops. Montgomery was the first capital of the Confederate States of North America and the first White House at that time was the residence of Jefferson Davis, the first and only president of the Confederate States of North America.
Alabama played a pivotal role in the American civil rights movement in the 1950s and 1960s. Dr. Martin Luther King Junior first preached at Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church in Montgomery, which is a national historical landmark. Memorials to the civil rights movement are scattered across the state.
Mobile is a great sea port. The city is famous for its diverse architecture, which resulted from the English, French and Spanish rule. The Church Street Historic District in particular has many examples of the different architectural styles.
- According to acronymmonster, the nickname of Alabama is Yellowhammer State.

Attractions in Alabama
Birmingham
The largest city is Birmingham, and attractions include the new urban sports and cultural center, the Museum of Art and the Red Mountain Museum (natural history and fossils). Birmingham, located at the foot of the Red Mountain, is a charming city with the typical charm of the southern states. The Morris Avenue neighborhood was restored some time ago, and visitors will experience the nostalgic flair of gas lamps.
Enjoy the streets. The two-story, neoclassical Arlington manor house (built in 1842) recalls the grandeur of the period before the Civil War. The cultural offer is wide and ranges from opera and ballet to modern theater and entertainment shows. A cultural festival takes place every year in mid-April. However, the real attraction of the city is the many parks and gardens. The Botanical Garden and the Japanese Gardens with a real Japanese tea house are particularly beautiful. Within 30 km are two state parks with a variety of leisure options, Rickwood Caverns State Park in the north and Oak Mountain State Park in the south. The Russell Caves are also worth a visit. Mound State Monument is museum and archaeological site at the same time. A reconstructed village with a temple illustrates the life of the people who lived here in prehistoric times.
Huntsville
With the help of the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center, founded by Wernher von Braun, the city of Huntsville in the north has developed from an insignificant small town in the middle of cotton fields to a modern metropolis. The NASA Space and Rocket Center is 5 miles away.
Tuscumbia
The lake area in the north is a popular sports and recreation area. Helen Keller (1880-1968) was born in the small town of Tuscumbia on the Tennessee River. Despite being blind and deaf and dumb, she became a Dr. phil. and has made significant improvements in blind education.
