Cincinnati
Cincinnati is located on the Ohio River and is a dynamic city with excellent shopping and some cultural attractions. The canal and excursion trips on the Ohio River are more relaxed. The 27th US President, Howard Taft, was born here and his birthplace can be visited. The Italian-style John Hauck House belonged to an influential brewer. The interior with original furniture from the 19th century is worth seeing. The Cincinnati Art Museum has excellent collections of paintings, sculptures, prints and Asian art. The Contemporary Arts Center offers a wealth of paintings, sculptures and photographs. The various exhibitions ofInstallation Art, Conceptual Art and Video Art. Conveniently located near the Greater Cincinnati and Cleveland Hopkins International Airports, Cincinnati is an ideal base for trips to Indiana and the beautiful bluegrass country around Lexington, Kentucky. A visit to the Kentucky Horse Center is recommended, where the visitor gets an insight into the training methods of a thoroughbred stud. Horse lovers are also in the Kentucky Horse Park Learn something new, this museum is dedicated to the four-legged friend. If you want, you can also get into the saddle yourself. Particularly attractive destinations in Ohio itself are Cedar Point on Lake Erie, Seaworld in Aurora, the quiet islands on Lake Erie and the scenic region of Hocking Hills around Logan.
Cleveland
Cleveland is located on Lake Erie and is a huge industrial city where you can visit museums, a planetarium, art galleries and art exhibitions. The Cleveland Orchestra has a worldwide reputation. The concert season in Severance Hall lasts from September to mid-May. In Ohio City, the oldest district in the west of the city, has successfully completed urban redevelopment projects. New restaurants and shops were created, the old houses from the late 18th century shine in new splendor. European immigrants have shaped the city, and the many festivals and various restaurants testify to the interesting cultural diversity that has been preserved to this day. Cleveland has one of the most important ports in the United States and is a major transportation hub. Harbor tours are offered from June to September. The public square in the heart of the city is also worth seeing. The Howard Dittrick Museum of Historical Medicine offers fascinating insights into the history of medicine. Art lovers should definitely do thatVisit the Cleveland Museum of Art in Wade Park, which has, among other things, excellent paintings by European masters. Cleveland has numerous parks where you can find peace. In June the Jazz Festival creates a good atmosphere.
Columbus
Columbus, the capital of the state, has a wide range of museums. The Ohio Historical Center is well worth a visit. Here visitors can explore the history, archeology and natural history of the state. The collections of glass objects, ceramics and furniture are also interesting. There is also a gallery. Those who prefer to visit galleries will get their money’s worth in the Columbus Museum of Art. The exhibition focuses on European Impressionists and Post-Impressionists as well as masterpieces of German Expressionism. Affordable works by modern artists are in the Short North Gallery District to purchase. The selection ranges from filigree glass sculptures to second-hand clothing. Performing arts are at home at the Wexner Center for the Arts, but the building itself is also known for its innovative architecture. In Ohio Village you feel like you are back in time before the civil war, here you can experience what everyday life in a small town looked like at that time. This is in contrast to the Center of Science and Industry (COSI). On four floors, visitors can expect permanent and time exhibitions from the field of science with interactive technology. Thurber House is the restored building where the writer and cartoonist James Thurber spent his childhood.
Two of the most interesting neighborhoods are the German Village and the Brewery District. The former was lovingly restored with great attention to detail and today offers architecturally interesting buildings, good restaurants and bars, German bakeries and bookshops. As the name suggests, there are a number of old breweries in the Brewery District. However, these are now home to restaurants, small, selected shops and beer bars.
Those looking for relaxation can do so in the Franklin Park Conservatory. The glass building is divided into two sections, the first section houses tropical plants in a Victorian-like environment, the second part houses seven different ecosystems in the world, including tropical rainforest and desert.
