Geographic location, nature. Located in southwestern Europe. According to DIGOPAUL, Spain occupies about 85% of the Iberian Peninsula, the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea. The area of Spain is 504,750 sq. km. Land area – 499,400 sq. km., water – 5,350 sq. km. In the south and east it is washed by the Mediterranean Sea, in the north and west by the Atlantic Ocean. The longest river in Spain is the Ebro River, its length is 928 km. Mountain ranges and plateaus occupy the largest territory of the country. They are surrounded by lowlands and plains. The forest area in Spain is small – only about 10%.
Capital, major cities. The capital of Spain is Madrid. It is a city with a population of 3.213 million inhabitants. It is an agglomeration with an area of 1.2 thousand km2, the city itself covers an area of 607 km2, divided into 21 administrative districts. Major cities: Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Zaragoza, Malaga, Las Palmas, Murcia, Palma, Bilbao, Valladolid, Cordoba. Border countries : Portugal, Andorra, France, Gibraltar.
Climate. One of the warmest countries in Western Europe. On the Mediterranean coast, the average annual temperature is +20 degrees C. In the northern and central regions of Spain, the temperature in winter is below zero degrees C. In summer, from the southern coast to the central part, the temperature is up to +40 C and above. The northern coast is mainly +25 C. Precipitation is 250-700 mm per year, the largest amount of precipitation falls in the autumn-winter period. Water temperature in winter + 18-22 C, in summer + 22-24 C. Spanish beaches are the cleanest in Europe.
Population. The population is formed by a single nation, which includes various ethnic groups: Andalusians, Catalans, Castilians, Valencians, Galicians, Basques. The population is 39.1 million people, the density is 78.5 people per km2. Barcelona has the highest population density -2100 inhabitants/km2. The smallest in the province of Teruel -14 inhabitants / km2.
language. The official language of Spain is Spanish (castellano). Administrative languages: Catalana in Catalonia, Euskera, Galego in Galicia.
Religion. The dominant religion is Catholicism. About 97% of the population is Catholic.

Customs control. Duty-free import: 400g cigarettes (300 pieces); wine – 5 liters; strong alcoholic drinks – 1.5 liters; coffee – 1 kg; tea – 200 g; food, household items within the limits of personal needs. Radio, photographic equipment, video must be declared. Permission to import film equipment is issued at the consular section of the Spanish Embassy. The import of weapons, ammunition, drugs, explosives is prohibited. The export of weapons and ammunition requires a special permit.
Visa. A visa for a trip to Spain is issued at the French Embassy in Belarus. Address: 220030, pl. Svobody, 11, Minsk, Belarus. Phone (general): +37517 -229-18-00. The Embassy is open: Monday – Thursday : from 8.30 to 13.00 and from 14.30 to 18.00. Friday : from 8.30 to 13.00 and from 14.30 to 16.30. To obtain a visa, you need: a foreign passport, a passport of the Republic of Belarus, 2 photographs (3×4), an invitation issued at the place of residence of the inviter, or a service invitation, which indicates that all expenses for the period of stay of the invitee in the country, including the costs of accommodation, meals, transport and, if necessary, for medical care, the host party undertakes. If the invitation does not indicate that the organization is responsible for all expenses, then regardless of the purpose of the trip, the applicant must provide an insurance policy. Employees and students must provide a certificate from work / study, a photocopy of the work book, a bank statement. The unemployed provide a certificate from the place of work of the person paying for the trip, a copy of his work book and a letter of commitment from the sponsor to assume the expenses.
Money. The official currency is EURO. In most hotels and restaurants, in shopping centers, VISA, MASTER CARD and other credit cards are accepted for payment. Banks are open from Monday to Saturday from 9.00 to 16.30. Many banks are open until 14.00. Currency exchange is open on weekdays from 9.00 to 16.00, some exchange offices are open on Saturdays and Sundays. The currency exchange offices are called “Cambios”. It is better not to change the currency in the hotel – the exchange rate is low.
Purchases. Store hours are not regulated. More often they work in the mode: from 9.00 to 13.00 and then from 16.00 to 20.00, on Saturdays only until 13.00. Sunday is a day off. But in all tourist areas there are shops open around the clock and on Sunday. Large department stores are open from 10.00 to 21.00 from Monday to Saturday, as a rule, without a break. Markets in large cities are open from 9.00 to 14.00. In small towns, so-called market days are held. Tax-free purchases: you will be entitled to a 16% VAT refund if the purchase price is at least 91.50 euros. Making a purchase by the seller: the seller must fill out the invoice, include in it the cost for each type of product, fill in the VAT amount by points, enter the data of the seller and the buyer. You should show the consignment note to the Spanish customs officer in the international office responsible for paying VAT. At the airport, there are special booths for this. The officer puts a stamp on the first copy. After that, you will need to present it at the bank at the airport in order for you to receive Tax-Free refunds. Shopping. Spain is famous for its leather goods (here leather goods are cheap and beautifully made), lace, ceramics, violins, guitars, flamenco shoes, wines, seafood delicacies.
Security. Spaniards are polite to foreigners, but when communicating with service personnel, it is recommended to demand a menu with prices, carefully check invoices for payment. When parking outside the garage, it is recommended not to leave anything of value in the car. It is recommended to leave the glove compartment open so that it can be seen that it is empty. It is better not to carry large sums of money in your pocket, leave your passport at the hotel, the key to the room at the porter.

You need to have with you: an international driver’s license, a cash deposit (credit card), a passport. There are reduced rates for rentals over 2 days. freeways. Freeways have different speed limits: “A” on a blue background is a toll freeway, with a speed of up to 120 km / h. Autovias – free, with speeds up to 100 km / h. “N” – free motorways with a speed of 90 km/h, in built-up areas – 60 km/h. Kitchen.Spanish cuisine has a wide range of food. Spaniards pay a lot of attention to food. Spanish dishes are very healthy and varied. Spanish cuisine is recognized by nutritionists around the world. There is no national cuisine as such, the diversity of dishes is influenced by the peculiarities of cooking in different regions. But the general features of cooking are still present. This, for example, stewing in wine, grilling, baking with sheep’s cheese, the use of grated walnuts, sage greens. Seafood dominates in Galicia. They cook excellent fish and shellfish. Gazpacho (cold soup with vegetables) is also prepared in the south of the country. Also, the south of Spain is famous for its excellent Jamon Serano ham. Catalans prefer roasts, sausages, sauces, cheeses. Basque cuisine is distinguished by its excellent preparation of cod and eel. The red wines of Spain are recognized by gourmets all over the world. You can try all the variety of Spanish cuisine in numerous bars, eateries, restaurants and cafes. You can have breakfast from 8 to 12, lunch is served from 13 to 14. 30. Snack at 18.00. - Passport / international passport for citizens of the Russian Federation, not older than 10 years and valid for 3 months from the end date of the tour. There must be at least 2 free pages with the inscription “Visas”. For citizens of the Russian Federation: a copy of the residence permit and the original.
- Copy of passport:photocopies of all completed pages containing personal information; registration, visas, etc.
- Two photos(3.5*4.5 cm, color, on a light background, not older than 6 months).
- Insurance. The minimum amount of insurance coverage is 30,000 euros. Only printed insurances are accepted! Important: in the corridor, 15 days must be added to the end date of the tour (example: tour for 20 days from 01.01 to 20.01: insure for 20 days from 01.01 to 04.02, while the cost of the insurance fee does not increase). A child under 17 is insured free of charge.
- Confirmation of employment:
5.1. For employees: a certificate on company letterhead (indicates the date of employment, qualifications, wages with a breakdown for the last 3 months). It is possible to confirm that the employee goes on paid leave during the trip and retains his place of work.
5.2. For individual entrepreneurs: certificate of state registration and last tax payments, bank account statement (minimum available balance 1000-1100 euros).
- For pensioners:a copy of the pension certificate; certificate of received pension (decryption for the last 3 months); as well as an extract from a bank account or a guarantee ( sponsorship letter; a copy of the sponsor’s passport; salary certificate or an extract from the sponsor’s bank account).
- For students (full-time education):certificate from the dean’s office; copy of student card; in the absence of own income: documents of the sponsoring person ( sponsorship letter; copy of the sponsor’s passport; salary certificate or an extract from the sponsor’s bank account).
- For students:certificate from the place of study; documents of the sponsoring person ( sponsorship letter; copy of the sponsor’s passport; salary certificate or an extract from the sponsor’s bank account).
- For the unemployed:a copy of the first and last pages of the work book or a copy of the diploma (if the applicant graduated from an educational institution no more than 6 months ago); statement of account; in the absence of own income ─ documents of the sponsoring person (sponsorship letter; copy of the sponsor’s passport; salary certificate or an extract from the sponsor’s bank account).
- For minors:birth certificate (copy and original). If the child is traveling accompanied by a third person, the parents shall notarize the consent to the departure of the child in favor of this person. The permit must cover the entire intended period of stay, including also an additional period of 15 days (for example, a tour from 01.01 to 20.01: dates from 01.01 to 04.02 are indicated). - The cost of a visa is 80 euros, for citizens of the Russian Federation – 35 euros. Children under 12 years old are free.
The Embassy has established the following requirements for the applicant ‘s monthly income : at least 520 Belarusian rubles. If the applicant provides only a bank statement, then the available balance must confirm the availability of funds at the rate of 65 euros per day for each person (including minors).
