According to topschoolsintheusa.com, Iceland is an island nation located in the North Atlantic Ocean between Norway and Greenland. It is the most sparsely populated country in Europe with a population of about 364,000. The terrain of Iceland is mostly volcanic with mountains, glaciers, and plateaus. The highest point in Iceland is Hvannadalshnjúkur at an elevation of 6,952 feet (2,119 m). The education system in Iceland is composed of four levels: pre-primary education (ages 3-6), primary education (ages 6-14), secondary education (ages 14-18) and tertiary education (ages 18+). Primary school enrollment is near universal for students ages 6-14 and secondary school enrollment has increased steadily over the last decade. Furthermore, gender disparities have been decreasing as girls are now just as likely as boys to be enrolled or complete their schooling. The Icelandic government has made efforts to improve access to quality educational opportunities through initiatives such as teacher training programs, scholarships for students from vulnerable populations, and improved infrastructure for educational institutions. Additionally, vocational training programs have been implemented to target youth who lack job skills needed to enter the job market. These initiatives have been successful in providing basic education for children living in remote areas as well as helping young people gain the skills they need to succeed in the workforce.
