The capital and largest city is Pristina with a total population of 1.8 million people. The official language is Albanian although Serbian and Bosnian are also spoken by many. The geography of Kosovo consists mostly of mountains with its highest point being Gjeravica at 2,656 meters above sea level. There are also several rivers and lakes throughout the country providing ample agricultural opportunities as well as recreational activities such as fishing and swimming. Additionally, there are several UNESCO World Heritage Sites located in Kosovo including Dečani Monastery and Gračanica Monastery which attract many tourists each year, providing an important source of income for locals. Education in Kosovo is compulsory from ages 6 – 15 years old with primary school followed by secondary school from ages 16 – 18 years old. Students can then pursue higher education at universities located primarily in major cities such as Pristina where they can study a wide range of disciplines including business administration, engineering and agriculture among others. Furthermore, there are several scholarship programs available to help students from low-income backgrounds attend university at no cost or reduced cost tuition fees. Additionally, technical training centers have been established throughout much of the country to provide alternative educational opportunities to those who may not be able to attend university due to financial or geographical constraints.
