The educational system in Lithuania follows a three-tier system similar to that of other European countries. Primary school lasts for nine years and begins at age seven. Secondary education consists of two stages: lower secondary (grades 7-10) and upper secondary (grades 11-12). Students can choose between academic and vocational tracks at this stage. Upon completion of upper secondary school, students can pursue higher education in universities outside Lithuania or attend one of 15 universities within the country including Vilnius University, Kaunas University of Technology, Vytautas Magnus University or Mykolas Romeris University.
