Its highest point is Mount Karisimbi at 4,507 meters above sea level and it has several national parks such as Akagera National Park which is home to a variety of wildlife including lions, elephants and hippos. The educational system in Rwanda consists of four levels: pre-primary (ages 3-5), primary (ages 6-13), lower secondary (ages 14-17) and higher secondary (ages 18-20). Pre-primary education is offered at private or public kindergartens while primary education is compulsory for all children between the ages of 6 and 13. Lower secondary schooling takes place at either technical or vocational schools offering courses such as carpentry or agriculture while higher secondary schooling consists of general academic courses. Higher education can be pursued at universities or institutes offering bachelor’s degrees in fields such as engineering, medicine, law and business administration among others. Additionally there are several private institutions offering quality higher education in English or other foreign languages to both local students and expatriates living in Rwanda. The adult literacy rate stands at around 70% according to a 2020 survey conducted by UNESCO. Overall, despite facing certain challenges due to its economic situation and lack of resources, the government has invested heavily in improving its educational infrastructure over recent years with a focus on providing quality education to its citizens as well as creating job opportunities for them through vocational training programs.
