It covers an area of 143,100 square kilometers and is home to a population of 9.5 million people. The terrain of Tajikistan is dominated by mountains with its highest point being Qullai Ismoili Somoni at 7495 meters above sea level. The climate in Tajikistan is mainly continental with hot summers and cold winters. Tajikistan’s education system consists of six levels: pre-primary education (ages 3-5), primary education (ages 6-11), lower secondary education (ages 12-15), upper secondary education (ages 16-18), tertiary education (ages 19+) and adult education/vocational training. All levels are provided free of charge by public schools; however private schools are also available at all levels but require tuition fees. Higher education in Tajikistan is offered at universities such as Tajik State National University; Tajik Technical University; Khorog State University; Khujand State University among others. These universities offer undergraduate degrees in various fields such as business administration, engineering, law, medicine and science as well as postgraduate courses covering disciplines such as humanities, social sciences natural sciences engineering sciences and applied sciences.
