The capital of Texas is Austin but other major cities include Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and El Paso. Texas has a diverse geography consisting of plains, deserts, mountains and forests. It is home to numerous national parks such as Big Bend National Park which offers visitors the opportunity to explore its canyons and mountains as well as Guadalupe Mountains National Park which features some of the highest peaks in Texas. Additionally, there are many rivers and lakes throughout the state that provide excellent fishing opportunities. Texas also has a rich history that dates back to when it was part of Spain’s New Spain colony from 1519-1821. Today it is home to numerous historic sites including The Alamo (the former mission fort that was a site of one of Texas’ most famous battles)and Fort Davis National Historic Site among others. Additionally, there are many museums throughout the state that allow visitors to explore its past including The Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin and The Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum in Canyon among others. The economy of Texas is diverse with agriculture playing an important role due to its favorable climate for growing crops such as cotton, corn and wheat among others. Additionally, there are many manufacturing industries throughout the state that produce goods such as petroleum products, chemicals and electronics among others. Tourism also plays an important role in Texas’ economy with many visitors coming each year to enjoy attractions such as Six Flags Over Texas (a theme park located near Dallas), SeaWorld San Antonio (an aquatic theme park) and much more! It is located in the south-central part of the state along the Colorado River and has a population of over 990,000 people.
