It consists of four reef islands and five atolls with a total land area of 26 square kilometers. It has a population of approximately 11,000 people living mostly on the two main islands of Funafuti and Vaitupu. The terrain is mostly low-lying coral atolls surrounded by reefs, with a few larger islands and some limestone outcrops. The highest elevation is 4.5 meters above sea level on Niulakita Island. The climate is tropical with wet season from November to April and dry season from May to October. The education system in Tuvalu consists of five levels: pre-primary education (ages 3-5), primary education (ages 6-11), lower secondary education (ages 12-14), upper secondary education (ages 15-17) and tertiary education (ages 18+). All levels are provided free of charge by public schools; however private schools are also available at all levels but require tuition fees. Higher education in Tuvalu is offered at universities such as University Of The South Pacific; National University Of Samoa; Kiribati Institute Of Technology among others. These universities offer undergraduate degrees in various fields such as business administration, engineering, law, medicine and science as well as postgraduate courses covering disciplines such as humanities, social sciences natural sciences engineering sciences and applied sciences. Additionally, there are vocational training centers offering technical training for employment opportunities in areas such as carpentry, plumbing and electrical work.
