It has a total land area of 527,970 km2 and an estimated population of 28 million people. The geography of Yemen is divided into four distinct regions: the coastal plain, the western highlands, the Rub al Khali desert in the east, and the Tihama plain in the west. The coastal plain is characterized by sandy beaches and coral reefs while the western highlands are made up of rugged mountains and wadis. The Rub al Khali desert is known for its expansive sand dunes while the Tihama plain is characterized by low-lying hills and fertile lands. The educational system in Yemen follows a three-tier model which includes primary, secondary, and tertiary education. Primary education starts at age six with classes from first to sixth grade followed by secondary education which lasts for three years with classes from seventh to ninth grade. After completing secondary school, students can pursue higher education at universities or colleges which offer programs such as engineering, business administration, medicine etc. Higher education institutions also provide vocational training courses in various fields such as IT, hospitality management etc. In addition to formal schooling, informal learning opportunities such as Quranic schools exist which offer religious instruction for children aged 6-15 years old.
