West Virginia is one of the states of the United States of America. The nickname for the state is “Mountain State”. The capital is Charleston. You can easily combine a holiday in West Virginia with the surrounding cities.

According to fun-wiki, the state of West Virginia covers 62,809 km2, of which 62,436 km2 is land. To the east and north, the state has an elongated protrusion called a panhandle. West Virginia borders the state of Pennsylvania to the north, Ohio and Kentucky to the west, Maryland to the east, and Virginia to the south. The main river is the Ohio, which forms the border with the state of the same name. The state is partly in the Appalachians, with the summit of Spruce Knob (1482m) as the highest point. The state is hilly and covered with forests.

The area now called West Virginia was originally settled by Native American tribes. Until the American Civil War, it belonged to the state of Virginia, when there was already disagreement about, among other things, the slave trade. When Virginia seceded from the Union, the western counties in turn seceded from Virginia on April 27, 1861. On December 31, 1862, Abraham Lincoln signed a law allowing West Virginia to form a dependent state. On June 20, 1863, it formally became the 35th state of the United States.

Harpers Ferry

Harpers Ferry is a small village in West Virginia with only about 300 inhabitants. The village owes its fame to the revolt of slaves led by John Brown in 1859. They raided the arms depot in Harpers Ferry to take the liberation of the slaves from there. The case ended in a fiasco and after 2 days John Brown was hanged.
